# AI Shopping Reached Main Street. Is Your Store Ready?

The AI boom reached Main Street this week. The headline version: SpaceX, Anthropic (the maker of Claude), and OpenAI are all racing to go public, so ordinary people will soon own a piece of it through their 401(k)s and index funds, as [Kevin Roose](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/05/podcasts/hardfork-ipo-math.html) explained on Hard Fork. The version that touches your store is quieter. AI shopping is showing up in your customer’s cart.

Amazon moved Prime Day to June 23-26 and handed the cart to Alexa. The assistant builds the deal list, watches the prices, and nudges the buy. More shoppers are asking their phone “where can I find this near me” and taking the first answer the AI gives them.

You do not need a tech budget to be in that answer. You need to be legible to the AI. Write your store and product information the way you would answer a customer who asked you out loud. Keep your Google Business Profile current. Name things plainly.

The store AI recommends isn’t the one with the biggest budget. It’s the one that’s easiest to read.

The AI is already doing some of your customer’s shopping. Make sure it knows your door is open.
