# The AI Slop Loop That Might Be Happening in Your Store, Too

[Lily Ray](https://lilyraynyc.substack.com/p/the-ai-slop-loop) flagged something worth reading this week: AI models are increasingly training on content other AI models wrote, and every round of that loop makes the output a little worse. She calls it the AI Slop Loop — a copy of a copy of a copy, until what’s left looks right but isn’t.

That is exactly what happens in stores.

You write a standard operating procedure. Your best employee learns it, then trains the next hire, who picks up 90% of the detail. A year later, that hire trains the next one, who gets 90% of that. Three employees down the line, nobody is doing what the original SOP said. Everyone is sure they are following procedure.

The fix is the same in both worlds: go back to the source. Keep the SOP written down where people can find it. Audit the handoff, not just the new hire. And every so often, do the task yourself so you remember how the original was written.

Tech problems usually aren’t new problems. They’re old human problems in different packaging.
