The Compendium Story

Compendium is the inspirational book, card, journal, and gift line behind Kobi Yamada titles, ThoughtFulls Pop-Open Cards, Life Notes kits, heartfelt family books, guided journals, and message-driven greeting cards.

The retail value is simple: Compendium gives a store meaningful gifts at accessible price points. Customers buy these pieces for new babies, graduations, encouragement, sympathy, teachers, grandparents, friends, and all the moments when a regular gift feels too thin.

Crown Publishing Group announced the acquisition of Compendium on December 4, 2024. Compendium now sits within Penguin Random House as a standalone imprint under Ten Speed Press. That changed account setup and wholesale terms. It did not change the editorial voice, the core titles, or the reason stores carry the line.

For Tennessee and Kentucky retailers, the practical answer is still clear: AmyFay Chandler and Tango Showroom represent Compendium wholesale. If the PRH account setup feels confusing, that is exactly the kind of thing a rep should help you handle.

The title that explains the line

Maybe is the easiest way to understand Compendium. It is a beautiful children’s book, but adults buy it for graduations, milestone birthdays, encouragement, new babies, and anyone who needs to hear that possibility still exists.

That is the Compendium pattern. The best titles do not feel disposable. They feel specific, personal, and giftable without requiring a complicated sales conversation.

How to Order Compendium

The easy way: shop AmyFay’s catalog. She’ll key it into MarketTime.

Build a cart in my online catalog at your pace — MSRP, cover, and ISBN for every SKU in the Fall 2026 line, in the same order as the printed catalog. Start with the 75 brand-new SKUs (Fall 2026 newcomers) or browse the full line. When you’re ready, the loud Send to AmyFay for review button is the one to hit if you’d like me to look first and suggest tweaks. If you already know what you want, Send to submit drops it straight to MarketTime through Tango Showroom. Opening order $500 MSRP, reorder $200 MSRP.

What belongs in the opening order

A strong Compendium order is not one random book and a few cards. It works best when the store gives shoppers a clear emotional section: books, cards, journals, and keepsakes that make sense together.

Book anchors

Start with Maybe, the Idea, Problem, and Chance titles, Tickle Monster, You Belong Here, pet titles, and the family keepsake books that fit baby, graduation, teacher, and grandparent gifting.

Cards and ThoughtFulls

Compendium cards and ThoughtFulls create the impulse layer. The fixture program matters because the line sells better when shoppers can browse more than a few messages.

Journals and kits

Guided journals, Right Now journals, Life Notes kits, and plush companions round out the table. They raise the perceived value without making the section feel heavy.

The card fixture is not a side note.

The free fixture program is one of the most practical reasons to open Compendium with intention. A card wall or fixture gives the line daily visibility and gives customers a reason to stop, read, and add one more piece to the gift.

For a new account, I would rather help you build a coherent fixture order than watch the line disappear into a mixed card rack with no story.

What changed with PRH

Compendium is now part of Penguin Random House. For retailers, the main change is operational: account setup, wholesale terms, item numbers, and ordering support now run through the PRH system.

Terms

Current terms are $500 MSRP opening, $200 MSRP reorder, and free ground freight. Use the setup guide before you start the application.

Ordering

Expect ISBN-based ordering and a one-time PRH account setup. Even if you’ve ordered through PRH before, completing the application is the sure way to be current — the setup guide makes it quick.

Retailer FAQ: Compendium

The questions Tennessee and Kentucky retailers are asking after the Penguin Random House transition.

Are AmyFay and Tango still my reps for Compendium?

Yes. AmyFay Chandler and Tango Showroom still represent Compendium wholesale accounts in Tennessee and Kentucky. Penguin Random House now handles the account setup and terms, but AmyFay still helps with line guidance, opening orders, reorder strategy, and transition questions. Start with AmyFay’s Compendium Ordering Setup guide.

How do I set up a Penguin Random House account for Compendium?

Start with my Compendium Ordering Setup guide — it walks you through the one-time PRH account application and includes your state’s resale form, ready to complete. If you’re unsure about anything, contact AmyFay before you submit.

Did the product line change after the acquisition?

The account process changed more than the product line changed. Compendium remains the line retailers know for Kobi Yamada books, ThoughtFulls, greeting cards, journals, Life Notes kits, and message-driven gifts. It now operates within Penguin Random House as a standalone imprint under Ten Speed Press.

What are the current wholesale terms for Compendium?

As of May 1, 2026, Compendium moved to Penguin Random House terms: $500 MSRP opening order, $200 MSRP reorder, and free ground freight. Review the practical notes at amyfaychandler.com/prh before opening or updating your PRH account.

What should my first Compendium order include?

A first order should match the way your customers shop. Children’s and family stores should lead with the core books and plush companions. Gift stores should include family books, encouragement titles, cards, and ThoughtFulls. Stationery-forward stores should add journals and build toward the card fixture program. AmyFay can help you choose the mix that fits your store.

About AmyFay Chandler

I’m AmyFay Chandler, a Knoxville-based wholesale sales rep serving independent retailers in Tennessee and Kentucky through Tango Showroom. I also represent Sweet Tree Jewelry and Caroline B Cook nationwide. Before I became a rep, I built two T-shirt lines, ran my own retail business, bought home and gift for Elder’s Ace Hardware, and worked with Werner Frank. I have been the maker, buyer, retailer, rep, and person at the register, so I evaluate every line from the store floor first.

I write the Retail Tidbit, a Friday read for local retailers I’ve published since August 2021, to help them buy smarter, merchandise with intention, and keep their stores valuable. Years of past issues live on my blog. Email me. More about me →
