The Whispering Willow Story
Julia and Wayne Parker met in college and pretty quickly decided their lives would be best spent together. After graduation they did the expected things — continued education, climbed the ladder — and realized they missed each other. They wanted a different life. A more intentional one. In 2010, they started making soap by hand in Lincolnton, North Carolina, a small town northwest of Charlotte. Sixteen years later, they’re still there, still handcrafting every product with a tiny team.
Three years in, everything changed.
In October 2013, Julia and Wayne were doing back-to-back craft shows — Saturday in Alexandria, Virginia, Sunday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They drove through the night in Bubbles, their soap van, caught a few hours of sleep, and set up just in time. It was hot. Julia was having trouble walking. Her legs felt like she was moving through quicksand. She kept slipping away to nearby restaurants, leaving Wayne alone under the tent.
She woke up the next morning with no feeling in her left leg.
By mid-October, Julia was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis — an autoimmune condition where the body attacks the protective coating around the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Every person’s MS is different. The cause is unknown. There is no cure. Julia manages daily neuropathic pain, muscle cramping, and crushing fatigue. She gets an infusion every three months to slow the damage.
In her own words: “The other 99% of the time, we make a point to set MS aside, so we can focus on the life we want to live — not the life it is choosing for us.”
That mindset shaped every product in the line. The lavender neck wraps exist because Julia’s muscles cramp without warning and she needed warmth that would stay across her neck and shoulders. The eye pillows — organic lavender flowers and flaxseed that you can heat or freeze — started the same way. The body oils, the salves, the preservative-free formulations — all of it traces back to a woman who needed products she could trust on her own skin, made from ingredients she could understand.
The Neck Wrap
The lavender neck wrap is the most gifted item in the Whispering Willow line. It’s sewn into three sections so the organic lavender and flaxseed filling stays distributed across the neck and shoulders instead of pooling at the bottom — a design detail that came from Julia needing it to actually work, not from a product development brief. Microwave it for warmth. Freeze it for a cold press. It comes in a box with a window so customers can feel the soft cotton flannel and smell the lavender through the packaging.
Customers send them to people going through surgery, cancer treatment, a new baby, a hard season. Every box comes with a blank card and envelope, ready to give.
Three fabric options — Stone, Fern, and a print called Secret Forest — and they look beautiful displayed together. The eye pillows come in the same three fabrics and are the overall best seller in the line: a gentle weight, a light aroma, organic lavender flowers and flaxseed, spot clean only.
Mother’s Day. Birthdays. Comfort gifts. The neck wraps and eye pillows turn a first-time buyer into someone who sends Whispering Willow to everyone she loves.
The Full Line
Six varieties of bar soap in holster boxes: Lavender, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus & Mint, Tea Tree & Charcoal, Goat Milk Lavender with exfoliating oats from a local farm’s goats, and Honey Oatmeal — unscented, for customers sensitive to fragrance even when it comes from essential oils. The yellowish color of the base comes from the olive oil and jojoba — that’s what natural actually looks like.
The hand soap comes in a frosted glass bottle with a pump and a box with messaging inside. The body wash is the same formula in a plastic bottle. Pumps ship separately with a hard cap — one of those details figured out after years of shipping glass across the country.
The body oil is a summer-weight moisturizer in a dark glass bottle, blended and poured by hand. Every box carries a values panel right on the packaging, so the customer sees what this brand stands for before she opens it. Available year-round in Lavender, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus & Mint, and Rose.
The hand & cuticle salve — organic sunflower oil, beeswax, jojoba, sweet almond oil — comes in a tin and arrives in a display box of eight, ready for the shelf.
Lip balm comes twelve to a display box in four varieties: Vanilla, Mint, Orange, and Lavender. Open the lid, flip it up, and it becomes the shelf talker. Display-ready in five seconds.
Four gift boxes, two sizes, all embossed with the Whispering Willow logo, each with a blank card and envelope. Tops aren’t sealed — customers can open them, and retailers often leave one displayed open. The Rest & Renew (neck wrap, body oil, bar soap) and the Tranquility (body oil, linen spray, salve, eye pillow — lavender only) are the kind of gift someone remembers receiving.
And when the weather turns cold, the body butter — whipped shea butter, hand-piped into a clear glass jar with a textured top that looks like the top of a cupcake. Only available October through March because it’s temperature-sensitive, and Julia and Wayne won’t ship a product that doesn’t deliver the experience they intended.
How Whispering Willow is made
Every decision this brand makes tells you something about who they are.
No water in most products — which means no bacteria concerns and no need for chemical preservatives. Essential oils only for scent. Natural clays and botanicals for color. No palm oil (a deliberate decision they wrote about publicly). No parabens, no sulfates, no phthalates. The frosted glass is painted rather than chemically treated so it can be recycled anywhere that accepts glass.
The closed-loop refill program is real infrastructure, not a marketing page. Buy the 64-ounce refill bag, use it, send it back with the included return label. They sanitize the bag and ship it back out with someone else’s order. The 2.5-gallon containers open doors with refilleries, salons, and eco-focused stockists.
Three certifications that get checked every year:
Leaping Bunny — the gold standard for cruelty-free. Verifies the entire supply chain, not just the final product. No animal testing anywhere in the process.
1% for the Planet — 1% of every sale goes to vetted environmental nonprofits. Audited annually. The organization was founded by the Patagonia founder so that “1% for the Planet” on a label means something verifiable.
WBENC Women’s Business Enterprise — certified women-owned through the national council.

The opening order minimum is $100, and the reorder minimum is also $100. The first order includes free testers for the hand & cuticle salve, body oil, and linen spray, plus complimentary shelf talkers and a selling tips postcard. What makes Whispering Willow different from other natural body care lines?
The founder, Julia Parker, has Multiple Sclerosis. Many of these products — especially the lavender neck wraps and eye pillows — exist because she needed them herself, which gives the line a depth of intention you can feel in the details. The certifications are real and audited: Leaping Bunny cruelty-free (entire supply chain verified), 1% for the Planet (annual donation audited), and WBENC women-owned. Every product is preservative-free, palm-oil-free, and scented with essential oils only.
Does Whispering Willow protect its retailers from market overlap?
Whispering Willow maintains a stockist locator and monitors it for proximity overlap. Retailers who order at least once every four months stay active on the locator. Julia Parker reviews it monthly and will have a conversation before opening a new account near an existing one. Very different store types near each other may both carry the line, but identical stores nearby won’t.
