The LINNEA Story

LINNEA (pronounced le-NAY-uh) is a luxury brand of home fragrance handcrafted in Carmel, Indiana. It began in 2009 when Lynn Manley first created Linnea’s Lights®, built upon a foundation of quality, craftsmanship, and a sincere interest in intelligent and sustainable design. The identity pays homage to the family’s rich Swedish heritage and strong matrilineal lineage. The Linnea is the small pink mountain flower named after the Swedish naturalist Carl von Linné, who invented the modern classification of plants and animals. It is also the national flower of Sweden and a popular girls’ name there.

In 2012, Lynn passed the torch to her daughter, Laura Cler, whose strong business acumen coupled with her passion, integrity, and imagination have taken Linnea’s Lights® from a hobby and transformed it into LINNEA®. Laura has a degree from Indiana University in communications and marketing and worked as a buyer for a major apparel and home-goods catalog before coming home to run the family company.

Her earliest food memories begin at her grandmother’s house in northwest Indiana, where the backyard garden fed the family and a communal kitchen table drew the multiple generations of women in her life. Those memories run through the catalog. The Fig Leaf candle started there. So did Heirloom Tomato. “The scent reminds me of having figs at the dinner table,” Laura has said. “It brings back good memories.”

LINNEA’s story is one of heritage, passion, and integrity. The logo’s double L carries two meanings: a nod to the original Linnea’s Lights name, and a nod to LINNEA’s signature double-wick candle design. From fragrance oils to domestically grown soy wax to locally-sourced packaging materials, every product is eco-friendly, cruelty-free, and features only the highest quality of clean ingredients.

Heirloom Tomato

LINNEA Heirloom Tomato Grande Candle from the Botanik Collection: ripe tomato, green stems, soil.
Heirloom Tomato Grand Candle — Botanik Collection.

The Heirloom Tomato candle exists because Laura Cler grew up with a backyard garden. “We love nothing more than going into the garden and picking a tomato off the vine,” she told Edible Indy. Ripe tomato on the top, green stems in the middle, soil at the base. LINNEA’s perfumer built the fragrance around the act of walking out into a hot August garden and breaking a tomato off the vine in your hand.

It lives in the Botanik Collection, LINNEA’s garden-inspired line. The Botanik Grand Candle is hand-poured in small batches at the Carmel workshop, housed in the signature LINNEA gray glass vessel, double-wicked for even burn and clean scent throw.

Heirloom Tomato also comes in the Classic two-wick and the Grande three-wick. It pairs on the shelf with Crushed Mint, and with Cucumber Vine, Rhubarb, and Strawberry Moon, the rest of the Botanik family. Every Botanik candle arrives in a box printed on recycled paper with soy-based ink. The dust cover is seeded paper embedded with basil, parsley, and chive seeds: the customer can plant the packaging in the garden after she finishes unwrapping. Matches are tucked inside every box.

Heirloom Tomato is the Botanik scent customers pick up first, and the one that brings them back.

The Full Line

The catalog is built around the Classic Collection, the signature year-round line that anchors the brand. Eight core scents: Cashmere (chamomile, amber woods, patchouli; #1 bestseller for 12 years and counting), Sea Salt, Lavender Rosemary, Hinoki, Persian Lime, Wood House, Belgian Linen, and Sacred Smoke.

LINNEA Crushed Mint Grand Candle from the Botanik Collection: hand-poured, three-wick, alongside Heirloom Tomato.
Crushed Mint Grand Candle — Botanik Collection.

The Botanik Collection is garden-inspired: Heirloom Tomato, Crushed Mint, Rhubarb, Strawberry Moon, Cucumber Vine. Heirloom Tomato and Crushed Mint are the two that move first. Botanik sits next to the Classic line on the shelf and reads as the editorial, conversation-starter drop — the one customers pick up.

The Spring Collection brings six scents: Lilac (a 2025 runaway favorite), Sun Day, Rain, Fields, Petals, Air. The Escape Collection is the summer drop, three scents: Poolside, Banana Wild, Sand. Fall and winter each get their own drops, and three new holiday fragrances arrived for winter 2025.

Reed diffusers arrive as 200ml kits with an environmentally friendly, alcohol-free base that lasts one to three months, plus refill bottles that let a customer reload the same vessel. Room sprays are shelf-stable and cover every core scent. The hand wash is sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, dye-free, vegan, cruelty-free, and pH-balanced. LINNEA® Layering means burning two complementary candles together so the scents mingle into something new, or pairing a diffuser with a room mist. On the shelf, it’s the reason a customer reaches for a second and third scent instead of just one.

Every step of creating a LINNEA candle is touched by the human hand. From blending, pouring, and packaging, the candles are designed with passion and an unwavering commitment to quality and beauty. By creating candles in this artisanal way, LINNEA maximizes the fragrance-to-wax concentration to ensure the ultimate in cold and hot scent throw without the scent flashing off the wax.

How LINNEA is made

LINNEA’s own framing: “A commitment to quality, and our tried and true methods of creating artisanal products for over a decade, is what sets LINNEA apart. We emphasize quality over quantity and create objects of beauty with the finest ingredients. The difference is illuminating.” Here is what that looks like in the workshop.

Every LINNEA candle is hand-poured in small batches from natural soy wax grown in the Midwest. Soy wax is 100% natural and biodegradable, burns slower and cooler than paraffin, and is a sustainable American resource. Wicks are lead-free cotton. The large candles are double-wicked, a signature that ties back to the two L’s of the logo, improves scent throw, and prevents the tunneling that wastes wax on single-wick candles. The vessel is the same gray glass on every core candle, by design: nothing on the shelf competes with the scent itself.

The fragrance oils are where LINNEA makes its hardest commitments. “All our fragrance oils are cruelty-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and Prop 65 compliant. Our blends comply with the International Fragrance Association’s safety and purity standards.” What that means in practice: California Proposition 65 is the strictest chemical-exposure warning regime in the country; LINNEA’s oils pass without a warning label. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) sets the global standard for fragrance safety and every LINNEA blend is compliant at the ingredient level — not just labeled compliant. LINNEA is also a proud member of the National Candle Association, the US trade body that sets safety standards for candle manufacturers.

The packaging matches the product. Recycled paper, soy- and water-based inks, no additional plastic. The Botanik Collection’s dust cover is seeded paper: basil, parsley, and chive seeds pressed into the fiber — so a customer can plant the box in a garden when she finishes unwrapping.

LINNEA’s Giving Light program channels dedicated support from the Botanik Collection to One Tree Planted®, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit audited annually that plants one tree for every dollar donated to global reforestation projects. In 2025 alone, LINNEA’s contributions funded 16,913 trees through One Tree Planted and 77,136 meals through Gleaner’s Food Bank, plus standing commitments to Feeding America®, the National Breast Cancer Foundation®, the Alliance for the Great Lakes®, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Bring Change To Mind. LINNEA raised over $50,000 across these organizations in 2025.

Since 2013, LINNEA has partnered with Janus Developmental Services, a local Indiana nonprofit that provides meaningful work for people with disabilities. The Janus team cleans and wicks every LINNEA glass vessel. This is a twelve-year-old working relationship, not a marketing line.

Retailer FAQ: LINNEA

Common questions from Tennessee and Kentucky retailers about carrying LINNEA. Click any question to expand.

What is the wholesale opening order minimum for LINNEA?

The opening order minimum is $450, and the reorder minimum is $200. Orders ship prepaid via LINNEA’s UPS Ground account from Carmel, Indiana. Payment is Visa, MC, Amex, ACH, or direct deposit.

How do Tennessee and Kentucky retailers order LINNEA wholesale?

AmyFay Chandler represents LINNEA wholesale across Tennessee and Kentucky through Tango Showroom. Contact AmyFay directly at [email protected] or (865) 217-6790 to set up your first order or learn more about the line.

What makes LINNEA different from other candle lines?

Three things. First, every candle is hand-poured in small batches from Midwest-grown soy wax by a team of artisans in Carmel, Indiana — not a co-packer, not mass-produced. The large candles are double-wicked, a signature tied to the two L’s of the LINNEA logo and the original Linnea’s Lights name. Second, the fragrance oils are cruelty-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, Prop 65 compliant, and IFRA compliant at the ingredient level, not just the label. LINNEA is a member of the National Candle Association. Third, Cashmere has been the brand’s #1 bestseller for twelve years running, and the Botanik garden scents are the ones customers reach for first.

Does LINNEA protect its retailers from market overlap?

Yes. LINNEA enforces MAP/MSRP pricing across all retailers, online and in stores, and tightly controls third-party resale — LINNEA will revoke wholesale partnerships for violations. Territory exclusivity is reviewed on every new account: LINNEA checks proximity to existing retailers before opening new accounts and reserves the right to maintain exclusivity based on order volume. US-based online-only retailers are limited by design — the brand actively works to keep distribution in physical stores.

Other lines I represent in Tennessee and Kentucky that pair well with LINNEA:

Whispering Willow — Handcrafted natural apothecary from North Carolina. LINNEA fills the home fragrance space; Whispering Willow fills the body care and comfort gift space. Retailers who carry both build a self-care destination the customer walks through slowly.
FacePlant Dreams — Bamboo sleepwear and bedding. The Cashmere Grande candle pairs with a FacePlant kimono robe as a complete Mother’s Day gift.
Lenny + Eva — Christian jewelry made in the USA by a Baxter, Tennessee company. Different category, same intentional customer and same gift-store floor.
