72 Million People Are About to Drive Past Your Door

It starts this weekend. AAA expects July 4th travel to break a record this year — 72.2 million of us on the move, and 85% going by car. That’s sixty-some million people with the windows down, watching the towns roll by, looking for a reason to stop.

Some of them are going to roll right past your store. The only question is whether they stop.

Sixty million people are about to drive past Main Street. Your window gets about three seconds to make them stop.

This is the week to be ready for it:

  • Put your easy, grab-and-go gifts up front and by the register. A traveler buys on impulse — a little something for the hostess, the grandkids, the road.
  • Make your window talk to a stranger. A regular knows you; a road-tripper decides in about three seconds whether you look worth the stop. Give them the reason.
  • Lean into what’s yours — the local, the regional, the “you can only get this here.” That’s what a traveler wants to carry home.
  • Double-check your hours everywhere a traveler might look.

You can’t make 72 million people travel. But the ones coming through your town? Pulling them in is just hospitality — and nobody does that better than you.
