The Power of Daily Habits

The Power of Daily Habits

“Success is the product of daily habits – not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.”
—James Clear

Do you know the game Wordle? I tried to give up the habit of playing that and 3 other games once/day a few months ago – but admittedly, I failed.

I usually play in the early morning hours while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Do you know what those early morning hours are for your brain? Gold.

Your brain is fresh and primed for the hardest mental tasks you do all day.

And I am choosing nonsense games. Wordle, Quordle, Connections and Strands – one play each – but still. Shame on me.

The smallest behavior choices we make every day can help us reach higher potential – or keep us on our same path getting the same results – or worse – undesirable results.

I am really good at Wordle. A little practice every day – the learning compounds. I should be good. But how does that help me? (It doesn’t.)

With 2026 a few days away, I am reminding myself that habits I want to change or start are best paired with something else new – like the year – and something else I already do or enjoy – like coffee.

As I prepare for the retailers meeting with me at market in January, I have noticed a pattern. My biggest accounts don’t necessarily place the biggest orders – but they order frequently. The amounts vary, but they consistently show up. Just like me and my Wordle.

What do you want to change about your store in 2026? Maybe you want it to be cleaner? Have more creative displays? Higher sales?

Think about the small behaviors that – done consistently – could get you there. Then pick ONE behavior to start January 1st.

Try to pair it with something you already do every day that you enjoy.

Maybe it’s checking your bestsellers every Monday. Or connecting with one past customer every week. Or walking your sales floor with fresh eyes every Saturday morning.

Not a massive overhaul. Just showing up for one thing that matters.

I am cheering you on!!

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

xoxo,
❤️AmyFay

P.S. I recommend reading James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits. You can listen to a recent interview with Steven Bartlett on DOAC, too – podcast wherever you listen – or YouTube here.

NotebookLM

Last week I mentioned NotebookLM and here I am again. It’s such a cool tool – and it’s free (like this newsletter!).

Thanks to those of you who let me know last week that the link got you to NotebookLM but not in the notebook. Turns out to share a notebook you have to use your personal Google account – and I was using my Workspace account.

This week I made a notebook about habits. Hopefully you will be able to click HERE and get into it. Here’s the infographic:

NotebookLM generated infographic about the science of building better habits

I generated the content in all the different formats (listed in the photo below) using the sources I chose. I especially love the audio overview (like a podcast). You can interrupt them and ask a question (enable your microphone) and chat with the AI podcasters!

One of my nieces who is in high school told me that she loaded all of her study notes (that she wrote) into a notebook in NotebookLM. She was most excited about listening to the audio overview to help her learn it all!

How could you use NotebookLM to help you?? If you are using NotebookLM – how? Would love to hear!

Did you know we consume about the equivalent of a credit card in plastic each week? I love companies who help us decrease that!

One of my favorite things about their towels is how soft they are – and after washing many times, too. Burp a baby🧑‍🍼 or wrap a loaf of bread🥖 – or use it as gift wrap around a bottle of wine🍷. So many designs! So many uses!
