Stay Focused on Your Unique Advantage: Your Physical Space
“People are actually craving those in-person interactions.”
— Neil Patel, marketing expert
As I chatted with one of you this week who is moving to a larger space, she mentioned she was trying to get her business online, too.
After my sympathetic overwhelmed moment passed, I thought, I need to remind her about her unique advantage as a retailer with brick/mortar.
Anyone can be online. It’s gotten easier and cheaper.
But a brick/mortar store?
The opportunity is there – but it’s not easy – or cheap.
Supply and Demand
Computers and chatbots are increasingly replacing humans for tasks that used to bring us together even if only for a moment.
Studies show that the happiest humans are connected to others.
Relationships matter.
⬇️ Supply of connection opportunities has decreased.
⬆️ Demand for connection opportunities has increased.
Focus
When you open your store doors every day:
- You create space for experience.
- You create space for friendships.
- You create space for connection.
It’s easy to get distracted.
It’s easy to think you need to do more – like be online, too.
And I am not saying online is a bad thing. (massively competitive, yes)
But if you don’t have the resources to help you do everything well –
stay focused on your unique advantage – your physical space.
As I sifted through data for one of you this week to create an order for her to review, I thought, “Wow. It would be nice to have a bot look at the display photos, know what the items and SKUs are, look at how many they have ordered in the past, figure out how many they have sold, know what their store is like, know who their target customer is, know what is trending, know what the best sellers are, know what is coming in the next few months AND figure out the best investment on their behalf in the way of a reorder…”
And then I thought, I think my job is safe for a while. 😂
I know yours is.
Stay focused this season. More people will walk in your doors for the next 6-7 weeks than at any other time this year.
Smile, greet them, find out why they came in. Prioritize connection.
You are your best marketer – especially in your store.
Use your unique advantage to its fullest & watch your business grow!
