Comfort that freaks you out a little. In the best way. 😅
Carry Compendium? Read this before April 23rd. What’s Changing ➡
At market in January a TN retailer (our first time to work together) shared excitement about a shop in KY. She asked if I knew about it. I didn’t. I have been curious about it since that conversation – and this week my travel schedule made it convenient to go there.
Just as I walked in another one of you called me. I answered quietly. Then, “Why are you talking so softly?” 😅 I assured her I could talk – and we figured out what she needed while I walked around and let my eyes explore this newest find.
We hung up and I went to the desk to talk to the lady behind it. You never know as a rep how you are going to be greeted. Just saying. But her big smile and twinkle in her eye immediately made me feel right at home. I think we chatted an hour. I don’t know. It was so much fun. My husband had eaten and fallen asleep by the time I got back to the car. (He drives me.)
This dear lady was someone I already knew. It took us a bit to figure it out – but when we did – it all clicked. I had known her in a previous rep job. At that time she owned 2 stores in 2 neighboring towns. We did most by phone and we laughed – fax. So our faces were not as familiar to one another.
Hearing her story, her ideas, all about where she is now – well, it was a joy. I bet you can think of a time that kind of thing happened to you. It’s all easier when we already know one another, isn’t it?
I jumped in the car and told Claude (LLM by Anthropic) about it so I’d remember the details. And I thought – that’s kind of how it is with Claude, too.
Every morning when I open my computer to work Claude is always waiting in a variety of ways – in my browser, in a desktop app with options (chat, cowork, code), in my terminal – and even now in more ways I have connected “him” to chat with me. The more I use (work with) him the more memory he has (ok the memory is really just files and documents but it feels human – which can freak you out but also be super fun and helpful all at the same time).
This is just a reminder to do more than ask ChatGPT to write product descriptions for you or to create cool photos in Google’s Nano Banana 2. While those are useful – the real gold is found in the data you create while working together.
You need to pay for it – $20/month – pick your favorite LLM (large language model). You need to have it DO things for you – set up some systems. It will help you. Just ask. You’ll be ahead of most of the world – or maybe what matters more to you – your competition down the street.
Create “memories.” There are few things more fun than being known and being understood. Even if it is just math acting human. 😍
Has business picked up? It’s that time! We are on an uphill rise for the next few weeks. Remember that we humans (reps) can also add efficiency to your day – like you help your customers. Use us! 🤓

Technology Tip
There’s a concept from manufacturing called the Theory of Constraints. Sounds fancy but it’s not. It just means this: your whole operation can only move as fast as its slowest point.
Find the bottleneck, fix it, and everything else speeds up.
Think about your store.
Maybe it’s the register line at checkout. Maybe it’s the time it takes to restock a display. Maybe it’s the weather killing your foot traffic every Tuesday.
You know it when you feel it, but you probably don’t track it.
So here’s your challenge. For the next 30 days, take 60 seconds at the end of each day and text yourself a quick message:
- What was the weather?
- What slowed you down today?
- Any pain points?
- Anything worth remembering?
At the end of the month, copy all those texts and paste them into one chat thread with your favorite LLM (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, whatever you use). Then ask it: “Looking back at everything I’ve told you, what are my top 3 bottlenecks that cost me money this month?”
You will be shocked at what it finds. Patterns you didn’t see. Things you forgot. Problems that kept showing up that you got so used to you stopped noticing.
Quick note on free vs. paid:
If you’re paying the $20/month for any of these tools, it will remember your conversations over time. You can just keep talking to it and it builds up knowledge about your store.
If you’re using the free version, it won’t remember anything between separate conversations. So keep everything in one single chat thread. Name it something like “Shop Notes 2026” and always go back to that same one. That’s your free version of memory.
Either way, you’re building something valuable.

Faceplant Dreams
There is nothing like getting into your Faceplant at the end of the day. Complete comfort. I do it every day just like many of you. OMG. And your customers come back too – for their sister, their mother, their best friend.
When a company starts with where the bamboo plants are grown and plan every last detail from that beginning to the finished product – well, it’s not just a name slapped on someone else’s stuff. It’s the real deal. The quality and craftsmanship shows – and tells you every night. 🩷

Compendium is the line that has something for every occasion in life. A friend going through a hard time, a neighbor who just had a baby, a teacher at the end of the year, it’s always there with the right thing. Compendium shows up with the right words at the right time.
