Books Sell

Tsundoku:

the act of acquiring books and letting them pile up without reading them

I bought another book this week. Big Ideas Little Pictures by Jono Hey, Creator of Sketchplanations.

If I were practicing Tsundoku, I would not know what that meant. LOL.
It was one of the big ideas that hit me as I thoroughly enjoyed reading my newest book.

Did you know that:

• 275,000 books are published each year?
• we generally live for about 30,000 days (or 80ish years)?
• if you read 1 book/week that adds up to about 4K books in a lifetime?

Books sell.

Sometimes by themselves, sometimes as an add-on,
sometimes as an impulse – “Oh my gosh! This is perfect for ___!”

They elevate your store.

They increase the amount of time someone spends shopping in your store.

They talk for you. Maybe it’s a reminder. Maybe it’s telling about your display.

Or maybe they are simply the glue.

As I worked with one of you this week who has lots of successful experience, he told me he needed to do books and cards (Compendium).

“Oh AmyFay, we sell so many cards.
I told a new retailer this week if she didn’t do anything else – just get the floor spinner for cards. And I gave her your name – hope that’s ok…
Let’s do books first – then you just fill in the (card) spinner please…”

I thought of y’all and myself (during my buying days) when I read this one:

Too many choices does not increase sales. It’s overwhelming. Have confidence when you pick something out – and go deeper.

For books, stack a minimum of 6 and pop one up on top to front face. You want the cover showing – and “talking.” (Do NOT look like a bookstore.🤓)

No one wants to buy the last book – or even buy one of 2… you send a message when you buy deeper. You believe in it. Your customer believes you.

Confidence sells.

You can be confident busier days are almost upon us. Are you ready?
