Retailer 75 Hard

“The best competition I have is against myself to become better.”

— John Wooden

“Mom, it’s ok – I am finished with 75 Hard…”

Heard of 75 Hard, a wellness challenge? Choose a healthy diet, exercise twice a day (once outside), read 10 pages of a non-fiction self-help book, drink only non-alcholic beverages – including a gallon of water… you get the point.

Every day. 75 days. If you cheat, start over.

When I was telling my son the menu (Greek night) for family dinner night recently – he assured me anything was fine. He was finished with his challenge.

Challenges like 75 Hard help us gain perspectives on ourselves (even if we don’t finish and even if we have a recovery day).

We learn or remember what best practices are to achieve our goal.
We learn where we are on that path.
We get better.

What would a 75 Hard Challenge look like for a local retailer?

Here are a few ideas to consider:

Daily

  • Analyze yesterday’s sales data.
  • Reorder top sellers.
  • Read 10 pages of business or personal development books daily.
  • Teach 1 associate 1 interesting thing about a product.
  • Walk a portion of your store like you are your customer. Record (using your voice) observations and suggestions to improve.

Weekly

  • Refresh your front entrance display.
  • Look at your fixed expenses. Are they as low as you can get them?
  • Keep a store maintenance list. Set 1 hour aside to work on it.
  • Ask your associates what their most memorable customer interaction was that week.

Do you think committing to 3-5 of these (or your own) for 75 days would help you improve healthy business habits?

My son’s commitment was a good reminder to me about how important it is to do some things frequently and consistently. Personally, I need to get back to reading on a regular basis.🤓

What do you need to do for you? For your store?

A new month begins soon. It’s a great time to start/restart.

If you feel like sharing what you do – I would love to hear!
